Haiti - earthquake 2010 - Dina
1/17/10 Port au Prince, Haiti -James Sheard, cq, right, a firefighter-parametic in Hingham, and Shannon Manzi, an ER pharmacist at Children's Hospital Boston, a couple deployed together, exchange glances upon arrival at the already-occupied mission location late Sunday night, January 17, 2010. The DMAT 1 team at long last secured secure transit to their mission location to set up a field hospital, but the journey took more than five hours and included hour after hour of delay while the teams stood packed tightly together in idling dump trucks. Once they arrived at their location (a soccer field and adjacent school), they were met with hundreds of displaced Hatians who had set up a camp of sorts. The DMAT commanders abandoned the plan to ask them to move and instead decided to place the DMAT camp in the much smaller schoolyard. Security was provided by the 82nd Airborne Division. Story by Stephen Smith/Globe Staff. Dina Rudick/Globe Staff.
